Fall is in the air. The cool, brisk breeze, the cozy smell of people firing up their wood stoves again, the bright sounds of whistles blowing and people cheering at the local football games, and the vibrant sights of leaves changing into their autumn best all remind us of the changing season. Keep your fingers toasty warm while watching that game or out admiring the fall colors by throwing a few soft and cozy DIY flannel hand warmers into your pockets. You can whip these up in no time at all with a couple of small pieces of flannel and a little plain rice.

Step 2

Place the two pieces on top of each other with the wrong sides together. Sew a 1/2-inch seam around three sides, leaving a 1 1/2-inch opening in the fourth side.

Step 6

Use pinking shears to trim the edges of the hand warmer to keep it from fraying. Place them in the microwave for one minute, load them into your pockets or mittens and head outside knowing your fingers will be toasty warm.
