Things You'll Need

  • Soda crystals

  • Cup

  • 3 white rags

One way to hide the burn mark, cover it with a pillow.

If the burn stain didn't cause a hole in your couch cushion, it's possible to fade the scorch mark, making it virtually disappear or become less noticeable. Before removing the stain, read the fabric care label on your couch to determine if it can safely handle a liquid solution. Upholstered furniture sold after 1970 typically has a letter code on its tag indicating wash instructions. It's safe to use a liquid solution on tags marked W or WS but not with tags marked S or X.

Step 2

Dip the corner of a clean white rag in the solution. Use a white rag to avoid transferring dye from a colored cloth to the upholstery.

Step 3

Dab the area with the solution to soak the scorch mark. Repeat until the mark is adequately faded.

Step 4

Rinse the area by dipping a clean rag in fresh water and blotting the area repeatedly.

Step 5

Blot the area dry using a dry, white rag.

Tip

Leather couches, or couches with fabric ratings of S or X require patching, as opposed to stain removal.
