If you want to sew layered pixie skirts, lightweight fabrics like chiffon or tulle will effectively create an airy look. Cut squares of fabric to give the handkerchief edges of the skirt flare. Pixies don't always don a traditional "fairy" look, so pairings of bright bold colors are appropriate if desired. Whether you are planning on attending a fairy festival or a costume party, this skirt will enhance your outfit with high caliber quality and stand-out style.

Step 1

Fold each square in half two times to locate the center point at the corner of each square between the fold lines. Insert a pin in at each of these center points, and draw an outline around each pin with the chalk. Unfold the squares and lay them out in front of you.

Step 2

Measure around the waist, and make a circle on the poster board using the same circumference as the waistline. Measure 2/3 inch in from the circle's edge, and draw a second circle. Cut the second circle out of the poster board with your scissors.

Step 3

Find the center point of the circle pattern piece by folding it in half and then folding it in half again. Place the center point of the pattern piece on the center point of a square, and pin the circle to the square. Draw the outline of the circle pattern piece in chalk, and cut the drawn circle out of the square. Do this for every square.

Step 4

Lay a large chiffon square down in front of you, and set a tulle square on top of the large chiffon square, lining up the circular holes. Twist the tulle so it is positioned as a diamond shape over the large chiffon square. Repeat.

Step 5

Set the small chiffon square on top of a tulle diamond. Lay this set of three layers on top of the remaining two layers, so all of the circles are aligned. Stitch the circular holes together 2/3 inch in from the edges of the fabric.

Step 6

Draw a line the length of the waistline measurement on the 1/3 yard chiffon piece. Draw a line 5 inches wide on either end of the fist line you drew. Draw another line to connect the open ends of the side arms of the rectangle. Cut the rectangle out and fold it in half vertically.

Step 7

Turn the bottom edge of the rectangle under 1/2 inch and then fold it again. Secure with pushpins the bottom fold line of the waistband strip to the right side of the 2/3-inch seam allowance around the edges of the circular holes.

Step 8

Sew the waistband strip to the edges of the circular holes, and sew the petals of the silk flowers to right side of the smallest chiffon square.
