You can wear ballet shoes for more than just dancing.

Ballet shoes can be used for dancing, worn as flats or used at home as slippers. They are attractive and simple to make, and are frequently in fashion. You can make your ballet shoes plain or let your creativity flow, adding details to personalize the slippers. Although traditionally pink, you can choose to make them from any type and color of material. The slippers can be made as a gift for a friend, shoes for a wedding or used at another special occasion.

Step 1

Draw around the outline of your feet on a piece of pattern paper. Add 1/4 inch all the way around to allow for the seam. Cut out the patterns and use them to cut out a leather sole for each shoe.

Step 2

Use the pattern of the sole to cut the fabric for the top of the shoe. Cut the material 2 or 3 inches larger than the sole to ensure the fabric will fit over the top of your foot.

Step 3

Lay the fabric over the top of your foot, letting 1/4 inch of fabric hang toward the floor around all the edges. Mark a point on the fabric at 1/2 inch in from your ankle.

Step 4

Measure around your ankle. Add 1 1/2 inches to this measurement and mark on the material. Cut away the material to form the foot hole.

Step 5

Cut a piece of elastic at 1 or 2 inches shorter than the size of the hole. Stitch the two ends of the elastic together into a loop. Sew the elastic around the hole on the top of the fabric.

Step 6

Line up the leather and cotton fabric together, right sides touching, and pin the material. Sew all around the slipper and turn it the right way out. Repeat with the second ballet shoe.
