Crock Pots, one brand of slow cookers, are handy appliances that prepare an assortment of meals. But these appliances have a tendency to stain from heat and burning. Some parts of slow cookers are dishwasher-safe, but the heating base is not. To clean and remove stains from a slow cooker heater, follow certain precautions for safety and to protect the function of the device.

Step 1

Unplug the heater from the electrical outlet before cleaning. Allow the heater to fully cool, as applying cold water to hot ceramic can cause cracking or other damage.

Step 2

Separate the heater from the rest of the slow cooker, if your particular model allows it. Some slow cookers allow for disassembly of the heating base from the pot, while others do not.

Step 3

Use a cloth, sponge or rubber spatula to remove residue from the heater.

Step 4

Spray a non-abrasive cleaning product directly on the stains. Saturate the stain and let it sit for a minute. Wipe with a cloth or sponge. Pat with a wet cloth to rinse.

Step 5

Use vinegar to remove stubborn stains. Dip a cloth or sponge in vinegar and wipe over the stains. Pat with a wet cloth to remove vinegar residue and smell.

Warning

Under no circumstances submerge the heater in water or any other liquid, since the attached electrical cord presents a risk of electrocution.

Don't use scouring metals or steel wool, which are too abrasive to use on the heater. These materials can scratch the surface and remove the protective layers of the surface.

Do not rinse the heater with a hose or by placing under the faucet.
