Use glue to make window decals.

Window clings make a great rainy day activity to entertain the kids. The transparent decals stick to the window and let light shine through them. They are easily moved around, exciting a child's imagination. Making them at home with the kids only adds to the fun by giving children a sense of creation and involvement. You can also use these easy window clings as holiday decorations. Simply use holiday-themed colors and designs for year-round fun.

Step 1

Pour about 3 tablespoons of white school glue into a paper cup. Add a few drops of food coloring to the cup and stir with a paintbrush. Add more food coloring for brighter colors. Make a new cup of tinted glue for each color you want and use a clean paintbrush to mix each color.

Step 2

Put a piece of paper with a simple design, such as a flower or star, under the plastic transparency paper or page protector.

Step 3

Trace and fill in the design on the plastic using a paintbrush dipped in the tinted glue. Paint the glue on in thick solid coats. If the first coat is very thin, let it dry a little and add another coat. The thicker the glue, the more sturdy the finished window cling will be. Clean up any mistakes with a damp paper towel.

Step 4

Make as many clings as you like that will fit on the plastic. Allow the glue to dry overnight.

Step 5

Peel the clings off the plastic. Stick them onto windows, mirrors or the refrigerator. To move them, simply peel off and reposition.

Tip

While the glue is still wet, sprinkle glitter over the design to make sparkly window clings.
