Make a Snowman From Styrofoam balls

There are hundreds of crafts that teach children how to make a snowman. The one that is tried and true uses styrofoam balls. The white, of course, helps make the snowman look like he is made out of real snow. The simplicity is appreciated by moms and teachers with busy lives. This craft is fun and surprisingly inexpensive Because of its low cost, it can even be done in the classroom as a December art project. This craft is recommended for grades 2 to 6.

Step 1

Push a toothpick into the center of a large styrofoam ball. Slide the center of the medium styrofoam ball on top of the other end of the toothpick. They should now be stacked on top of each other.

Step 2

Take a toothpick and push it into the top center of the medium styrofoam ball. Slide the center of the small styrofoam ball on top of the other end of the toothpick. The three balls should now be stacked on top of each other.

Step 3

Cut out 9 little black circles from your construction paper.

Step 4

Paste two black circles where the eyes should go on the top ball. This ball now becomes the snowman's head.

Step 5

Paste four black circles on the small styrofoam ball where the mouth goes. Try to make the circles curved so the snowman looks like he is smiling.

Step 6

Paste the remaining three black circle vertically down the middle of the center ball as the buttons.

Step 7

Cut a strip of cloth. Any design is fine, but a winter print works best. Make sure the strip is thin. Cut the ends so that they are frayed. Now the strip looks like a mini scarf, and you can wrap it around your snowman's neck. That would be in between the small ball and the medium one.

Step 8

Cut out a carrot shape from some orange construction paper. Glue it in between the eyes and mouth that you created on the small styrofoam ball.

Step 9

Finish off the snowman with a top hat. You can glue on a miniature top hat from one your dolls. If you don't have one, cut a hat out of construction paper.

Tip

You can paint the styrofoam ball instead of gluing construction paper pieces to it. This can get quite messy, though.

Warning

Watch smaller children with the toothpicks. The sharp ends can be dangerous.
