A leather jacket can shield you from the cold, dress down an elegant outfit or dress up a faded pair of jeans. Whatever intended style you're going for with yours, "wrinkled" is probably not the look you want to achieve. Leather is a strong fabric, but if it's bunched up or packed away for an extended period of time, wrinkles may form. You can safely remove the wrinkles and get the leather back to smooth.

Step 1

Put the jacket on a hanger. Rub your hands over the wrinkled area of the jacket to smooth them out as much as possible. You may need to tug on the fabric a bit as you're trying to smooth out the wrinkles.

Step 2

Hang the jacket in the bathroom. Turn the shower on to hot and let the steam from the water help release the wrinkles. Do this for 10 to 20 minutes, then smooth the leather again with your hands.

Step 3

Set your household iron to "low" if there are still wrinkles on the jacket. Lay the jacket down on the ironing board and place a piece of cotton fabric over the wrinkled area of the jacket. Run the iron gently over the cotton fabric to smooth out the wrinkles. Keep the iron moving at all times to avoid scorching the leather.

Warning

Do not use high heat on the leather jacket, as this may damage the fabric. Test the heat from the iron on an inconspicuous spot before running the iron over the entire surface of the jacket. Avoid using a hand-held steamer or applying direct steam to the leather.
