Things You'll Need

  • Measuring tape

  • Shadow box

  • Screw driver

  • Glass cleaner

  • Self-adhesive Velcro or Command Strips

  • Straight pins and safety pins

You can easily frame baby clothes and preserve them as a keepsake in a shadow box to hang on your wall. Treat your shadow box frame as a scrapbook page and create a scene rather than simply hanging the clothes. Add baby shoes, hair ribbons, photos and other special items to your display. You can find everything you need to frame baby clothes at your local craft store.

Step 1

Layout your baby clothes as you plan to hang them. Ready made shadow boxes come in sizes ranging from 5-by-7 to 24-by-36, so you can hang anything from a special t-shirt to a christening gown. Measure the perimeter of your layout and purchase the size shadow box that best fits.

Step 2

Open the shadow box according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually by removing two screws on the top or bottom trim. Slide the backboard out of the frame. Clean the inside of the glass while the back is removed.

Step 3

Place the baby clothes onto the board as you plan to frame them. The backboard is covered with felt so you can easily pin or Velcro the clothes in place. Safety pins work well, but often show through the clothes. Strips of self-adhesive Velcro also work well, but are difficult to remove from the clothing. Command Strips may be the best option. They can easily be removed from both the clothes and the felt without causing damage.

Step 4

Attach the clothing to the backboard. Slide the board back into place inside the shadow box frame. Reattach the trim and display your baby clothes.

Tip

Add tissue inside a special dress or shirt to billow the skirt or puff the sleeves. Glue the crumpled tissue to a piece of felt and pin it inside the baby clothes.

Warning

Stand your backboard upright to see how the baby clothes hang before you insert it back into the frame.
