Children love knights and dragons, so what better way to please them than by dressing them up as a knight on Halloween? Creating a knight costume is much cheaper than buying a pre-made costume from the store and it's likely that some of the items needed are already laying around your house. Making a knight costume can be done within an hour or so.

Step 2

Hold your milk jug by the handle and flip it upside down. Cut the area around the handle plus the top of the carton so that it makes a hole big enough to place on your child's head.

Step 3

Trim any sharp areas that may be left on the plastic jug or use a fine sandpaper (200 grit) to smooth down the edges.

Step 4

Paint the helmet using the desired color of craft paint and your paint brush. Allow the helmet to dry.

Step 5

Wash the pillowcase in the laundry and allow it to dry. Iron the pillowcase so that it is free of wrinkles.

Step 6

Lay the pillow case on a hard, dry, flat surface with the open end facing your body. At the top of the pillowcase, with a pencil, draw a half circle, as well as on both sides of the pillowcase (see image).

Step 7

Cut 3 inches off of the bottom open-end of the pillowcase. You may need to cut more off depending on the size of the child wearing the costume.

Step 8

Draw a notched pattern on the bottom of the pillowcase with a pencil (see image).

Step 9

Cut along the lines that you drew on the pillowcase. Cut a cross out of felt (your desired color) and glue it to the center of the pillowcase. Allow the piece to dry.

Step 10

Cut out a sword shape (don't forget the handle) out of cardboard. Make the end of the sword round to avoid any injuries.

Step 11

Paint the sword with craft paint and allow it to dry.

Step 12

Cut a shield shape out of the cardboard. It can be a round shield, a square shield, a hexagon, or any shape that the child desires. Be sure to round off any sharp edges.

Step 13

Decorate the shield with craft paint, markers and possibly even stickers. Let the shield dry.

Step 14

Cut two slits in the center of the shield. They should be horizontal and they should be no more than 1 inch long. Attach the Velcro strap to the shield and bring it around the back. This is where your child will hold the shield on his wrist.
