Precooked shrimp come (as the name implies) precooked, cleaned and very often with their shells removed. This makes them a great cornerstone for an improvised meal that can be made in a matter of minutes. Frozen shrimp work, too. Use this recipe to make shrimp as an entree, or to prepare them for mixing into a pasta.

Step 1

Turn on stove to medium-high and put the grill pan on it. If you intend to add the shrimp to pasta, start a pot of water boiling for the pasta.

Step 2

Mix the shrimps with basil pesto. Use one tablespoon of pesto per pound of shrimp. Toss the shrimps until they are coated with pesto. Make sure you get any clumps of frost out if you are working with frozen shrimp.

Step 3

Wait for the grill to get hot, and then sprinkle with olive oil and two tablespoons of minced garlic.

Step 4

Put the shrimp on the grill and cook them. Grill thawed shrimp for two minutes on one side, then flip them and grill for a further minute on the other side. For frozen shrimp, multiply the cooking time by a factor of three or four.

Step 5

Pull cooked shrimp off the grill with a pair of thongs when they are done.

Tip

For best results, thaw your shrimp before cooking. The frozen option presented here is only if you need to improvise.
