Marble countertops in bathrooms and marble flooring are beautiful, timeless additions to any décor. Since marble is a very porous stone, stains can occur quickly. Never use harsh chemicals on a porous stone surface. Something as common as soda pop can acid etch the surface and cause extensive damage that is expensive to fix or replace. Latex paint is removable using a water-based stripping agent. Almost any homeowner is capable of bringing back the marble luster without backbreaking work or stifling fumes.

Step 2

Scrub the surface with a scratch-free scrub sponge. Rinse with warm water and a sponge. Allow the surface an hour to dry.

Step 3

Rub any areas that have remaining paint film with a rag dipped in isopropyl alcohol. Make sure to remove all of the paint before continuing. Apply a second round of the stripping agent if there is any latex paint still visible. Rinse and wipe the surface again with alcohol. Let the marble completely dry for a 24-hour period.
