How to Glue Wood to a Mirror

Adding decorative wood pieces to a plain mirror is an inexpensive way to add color to a room or continue a decorating theme in a room. Decorative wood pieces can be found in all shapes and patterns at hobby and craft stores that can be finished to match the exact colors of a room. The decorative pieces are especially suited to updating or continuing a decorating theme in a child's room or bathroom. Gluing wood pieces to a mirror is an easy process that takes minimal preparation and supplies.

Things You'll Need

  • Rag

  • Microfiber Cloth

  • Wood Pieces

  • Adhesive

  • Rubbing Alcohol

Step 1

Wipe the mirror with microfiber cloth to remove dirt and dust.

Dampen a rag with rubbing alcohol and clean the mirror where the wood will be attached. The rubbing alcohol will remove any greasy residue on the mirror that might affect adhesion.

Step 3

Apply a thin line of adhesive that is good for both glass and wood up and down the back of the wood piece in a zigzag fashion. Do not place the adhesive line right next to the edge of the wood piece, or it may squeeze out onto the mirror.

Step 4

Press the wood in place on the mirror. Hold the wood piece in place long enough for the glue to set, or you can tape the wood in place while it dries. Refer to the glue manufacturer's instructions for the drying time, but realize that humidity can increase the amount of time it takes glue to dry. An average amount of time for glue to set is usually two to five minutes.

Tip

Use a blow dryer to speed up the drying process of the adhesive.
