DeWalt power tools are one of the more widely-recognized brands used worldwide by contractors and homeowners alike. The distinctive gold and black design are unmistakable in the home improvement tool market. DeWalt drills are lightweight, durable and come in both corded and cordless versions. Keeping the vents clear and the casing free of grease and dirt adds life to your tool investment. A few minutes of mild cleaning once a week will keep your DeWalt drill running and looking like new.

Step 1

Unplug or remove the battery to the power drill. Force a stream of canned air through the vents of the drill repeatedly to remove all dust. Canned air is available at most auto parts stores.

Step 2

Add two drops of mild dish washing soap to a rag and run under warm water. Rub the soap into a lather and wring the excess liquid out of the rag.

Step 3

Wipe all areas of the plastic casing on the tool with the soapy rag. Do not let liquid run down into the drill.

Step 4

Scrub heavily-soiled areas with a scratch-free scrub pad similar to the kind used to clean non-stick cookware. Rinse with a rag dampened with plain water.

Step 5

Allow the tool to air dry before storing it in a clean, secure area. Clean weekly to maintain the drill in good condition.

Tip

Proper care of power tools starts with correct knowledge of its use. Cleanliness and knowledge give the owner an edge on safety. According to the North Carolina State University Extension office, "Once you're sure you've selected the right tool for the job, it's vital that you know how to use it properly." Immediately clean grease off the cover of the drill. Grease and oil can permanently stain the plastic.

Warning

Do not use harsh cleansers or scrubbers on the DeWalt power drill. Use safety glasses when blowing out the vents with air.
