Fill your home with your favorite scent

Making scented crystals is an almost effortless way to decorate your home while filling the air with your favorite fragrance. Scented crystals take almost no time at all to make, and you can find the needed supplies at your local dollar store for less than the cost of one candle at a gift shop. Give your family and friends your homemade scented crystals in fancy glassware as gifts for birthdays or the holidays, or personalize them with a gift tag and hand them out as favors at your next party.

Step 1

Place the crystals in a colander, and rinse them under cool water to remove grit or residue. Pour the crystals out of the colander onto a towel to dry.

Step 2

Drip several drops of food coloring and a few drops of water into a zipper bag. Add two droppers of fragrance oil for every cup of crystals, and mix the ingredients together.

Step 3

Pour the dry crystals into the bag, and mix them around until the crystals are coated with the coloring and fragrance.

Step 4

Drain the liquid out of the plastic bag. Lay the crystals on a paper bag to allow them to dry. You can also use foil, paper towels or parchment paper if a paper bag is not handy.

Step 5

Pour the scented crystals into a glass dish or candle holder, and allow the scent to fill your home.
