Nail polish looks nice on nails, but not so nice on jeans.

You've just spilled fingernail polish on your favorite pair of bluejeans and you don't know what to do. Don't panic and throw them in the washing machine, don't run them under cold water and don't grab that stain stick. Relax and breathe--it is possible to get the polish off your jeans without ruining them.

Step 1

Place paper towels or clean rags on a table to absorb any stains from the removal process. Place your jeans on top of the rags with the stain face down.

Step 2

Dampen a corner of a white cloth lightly with clear nail polish remover.

Step 3

Rub the stained area from the back, rubbing the nail polish splotch inward from the outside edge. This will stop the polish stain from growing larger.

Step 4

Check the cloth immediately under the jeans. It should be dyed from some of the polish. Move a new clean rag under the stain to catch more of the polish. Move the old rag away from your jeans so that it does not stain another area. When the corner of the cloth you are using gets saturated with polish, wet another corner and continue.

Step 5

Continue to treat the stain with acetone nail polish remover until the polish is completely gone.

Warning

Be careful not to get acetone on your other clothing. According to Ohio State University Information Extension, acetone can disolve acetate, triacetate, and modacrylic fabrics.
