Things You'll Need

  • Rotating clamp

  • Silver pendant

  • Hand engraving tool

  • Pencil

  • Cloth

  • Ammonia-water mixture

You can engrave your own silver pendant.

Personalized necklaces make thoughtful gifts and unique accessories but professional engraving can be expensive. Engraving jewelry yourself creates funky, personalized pieces. Pick up a silver pendant in a second hand store and buy a hand engraver ($30-$120) to make elegant jewelry.

Clamp the pendant with the rotating clamp so it doesn't move out of place when engraving.

Step 3

Put on goggles and plug in the hand engraving tool.

Step 4

Trace the pencil design with the hand engraving tool to chisel the design out of the metal.

Step 5

Unclamp the pendant. Brush it with a towel to clear off any metal dust. Wipe down the pendant with an ammonia and water mixture to clean and shine.
