Smaller tents are easy to pitch inside

When your kids want to camp, but you cannot get away, put up a camping tent inside a bedroom. It is easy and provides the rugged sleeping quarters of camping but the luxuries of home. Whether you have a dome tent or multi-room tent, putting it up inside does not take much time. You do not have to battle the weather, hope for good light or determine the slope of the land.

Step 1

Make space for the tent. If necessary, move some furniture and pick up toys. There should be enough clear floor-space that the only thing the tent touches is the floor.

Step 2

Set down two or three layers of blankets for padding.

Step 3

Lay the tent on the floor, centered over the blankets. Position the tent so it opens up to a large access area with adequate room to get in and out comfortably.

Step 4

Put the support poles together. Pass them through the tent guides or sleeve, or snap them into the grommets. Follow the manufacturer’s directions for this. Some need to be assembled in a particular order.

Step 5

Set the poles in the keys at the bottom of the tent. This pulls the tent up into its shape.

Tip

Keep your tent's instruction manual in the tent bag. You never know when you will need it. Keep an extra set or two of tent poles in the tent bag, just in case one breaks.
