Rosary beads can be made from rose pedals.

Rosary beads are an important Catholic tradition, used during prayers. In the historical sense, rosary beads may not have been made out of actual roses. Stones may have been used to create the jewelry. However, in this day and age, many different things can be used to make rosary beads. Many people used actual roses to create the jewelry in the early 1900s and the technique is still being practiced today. You can use the pedals of roses to make your own homemade rosary beads and they will be both lovely and fragranced.

Step 1

Remove the pedals from the roses. A single rose can be used to make half a dozen beads. Put your pedals in a cooking pot and add enough water to cover all of the rose pedals. Simmer on low heat until your rose pedals are malleable.

Step 2

Remove the rose pedals from the cooking pot and place them inside a blender. Add 1/4 tsp. of water in the blender with the rose pedals. If you want your rosary beads to have a stronger rose fragrance, then use water that was used to simmer the petals. Blend the rose pedals and water until they become a pulp substance and let it cool off.

Step 3

Remove the rose pedal pulp from the blender. Roll a bead sized amount of it into a bead shape and leave it to dry. Do this with the entire rose pulp substance. While they are drying, gently turn them over every other hour so that they will dry evenly. Do not let them completely dry before you move on to the next step.

Step 4

As soon as the beads feel firm, push a needle through them to give each of them one hole. Make each hole wide enough to insert your string through them. Allow them to completely dry before using them to make your rosary jewelry.

Tip

To add more fragrance and shine to your rosary beads, coat them with rose oil.

Warning

Water can harm your rosary beads.
