Melted chocolate chips drizzled on cookies add flavor.

You can use several methods to melt chocolate chips to drizzle over cookies. These methods utilize the stove top, the oven, and the microwave oven. All three methods have one thing in common: Melt the chocolate chips slowly over a low heat. If you try to melt chocolate more rapidly, over a higher heat, it will become grainy and have a burnt flavor. It will also become grainy if any water gets into it, so ensure that no water gets into the pan or bowl with your chocolate.

Step 2

Cook over low heat. Stir occasionally with a wooden spoon. Don't use a metal spoon because it will absorb part of the heat.

Step 3

Remove from the heat as soon as the chocolate is melted. Stir until smooth.

Conventional Oven

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 110 degrees F. If your oven does not go that low, set it at the lowest setting and leave the door ajar.

Tip

Use a larger pan with a smaller pan suspended inside of it in place of a double boiler if you do not have access to one.
