Fix cracks in wheel barrows with epoxy putty.

The thickness of most plastic wheelbarrow beds is enough to create a tough and durable moving implement, though over time the plastic can crack, or holes may appear if heavy weights are dropped into the barrow. Damage of this type is quickly fixed with the application of epoxy putty. Available in a tube, the putty welds itself to the plastic when coming into contact with air. After it is fully dry, the seal is extremely tough and watertight.

Step 1

Remove all large particles of dirt from the cracked area with a rag, and clean the plastic using a steel brush. This creates a slightly abrasive surface which helps the putty bond into place. Wipe away all plastic fragments with a rag, and if there is oil present remove it with a solvent.

Step 2

Cut the putty from its tube using a utility knife. Roll and knead the putty in your hands (use rubber gloves if it irritates your skin) until the putty becomes one uniform color.

Step 3

Press the putty onto the cracked area, making sure it covers around the crack to a width of 1/2 inch on each side. Smooth out the putty with damp fingers during the curing process. The putty takes roughly 30 minutes to fully cure.

Tip

After kneading the putty, apply it to the plastic surface within two minutes. Wash hands thoroughly in warm soapy water after application.

Warning

Do not use the wheelbarrow until the putty has fully cured.
