Sump pumps are a necessity in homes with basements in flood-prone areas. Sump pumps are used to pump excess water out of flooded basements in your home. The pump basin, otherwise known as the sump pump it, is the reservoir hole of the pit that was dug out to hold the water as it is pumped out by your pump. Just like sidewalks can sometimes, move or develop cracks over time, so can your sump pump pit. If this happens you will want to make repairs immediately.

Step 2

Shut off the power to your sump pump and unplug it.

Step 3

Lift your sump pump assembly out of your sump pump pit and set it aside.

Step 4

Pull your sump pump basket out if you have one. Also, remove your sump pump liner if you have one. Some sump pump pits are merely cement holes where the pump is placed. If you do not have a basket or liner in your sump pump pit, skip this step and continue to the next.

Step 5

Place several old towels down on the floor of your sump pump pit or basin to remove excess moisture. Allow several hours to pass for the floor of your sump pump pit to completely dry.

Step 6

Inspect your sump pump basin and identify the areas that need to be repaired.

Step 7

Mix a batch of concrete in either an industrial-sized bucket or wheel barrow. Use a hammer and chisel to enlarge the crack slightly if it larger than a hairline crack. This undercutting process helps the new cement bond to the old cement.

Step 8

Apply the fresh concrete to affected areas of your sump pump basin. Use the hand trowel to spread the fresh cement out evenly. Use a putty knife to wedge the fresh concrete as far down into the crack or cracks as you can.

Step 9

Allow 48 to 72 hours for the fresh concrete to dry and settle. Mix a small batch and apply any finishing touches if necessary
