All graduates deserve respect and congratulations for their efforts, but those who have put in the effort to graduate with honors receive a little extra recognition. Honor cords are worn around the neck of those graduating with honors to visibly distinguish those graduates from the rest of the class. The cord is worn with the ends untied and typically landing near the waistline of the graduate. They can be any color.

Step 1

Measure four inches from one end of the cord. Tie the cord into a knot at that point. Repeat for the other end of the cord.

Step 2

Use a straight pin to separate the individual strands of the 4 inch segment extending beyond the knot. This creates the tassel end. Cut any dangling threads so that the strands are even. Repeat for the other end of the cord so that both ends are tassels.

Step 3

Form a "U" shape with the cord and place the curved portion of the cord around the graduate's neck. The cord length should be centered and the tassels should be hanging on the front of the body.
