Children will enjoy dressing as characters from Dr. Suess' classic story.

The children's story, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," is a timeless tale of a cold-hearted Grinch who receives the Christmas spirit through the love of one little girl, Cindy Lou Who. Though the story is the same, the classic cartoon and more recent movie each have their own takes on the looks of the characters. Whether using the cartoon version or the movie version of the characters, children will enjoy dressing up as the Grinch or little Cindy Lou Who for their next costume party.

Step 1

Apply green costume make-up to the child's face. Alternatively, face paint can be used. Cover the entire face. Use black make-up to draw on the Grinch's eyebrows and to paint the tip of the child's nose.

Step 2

Spray the child's hair green with colored hair spray. A green, furry wig can be used as well.

Step 3

Dress the child in green leggings or sweatpants. Since the Grinch is dressed as Santa Claus for much of the movie, use a Santa jacket and belt for the top as well as a Santa hat.

Step 4

Cover socks, shoes or slippers with fake green fur to look like the Grinch's feet. Green gloves can be used to cover the child's hands.

Cindy Lou Who

Step 1

Dress the child in a pink nightgown or a dress and cape, depending on whether you want to depict Cindy from the classic cartoon or the recent movie. The nightgown should be a classic, ankle length nightgown. The dress could be of any variety, though in the movie she is wearing a checkered dress. Purchase or make a red cape from a Christmas tree skirt to wear over the dress.

Step 2

Add shoes to the outfit. Mary Jane shoes are perfect for the movie version of Cindy Lou Who. If you want to go with the cartoon version, bare feet would work. However, this would not be practical for many occasions, so slippers can be used instead.

Step 3

Use a short, blonde wig to look like the cartoon Cindy Lou Who . Attach red ribbons to small barrettes and place one on either side of the child's head. The movie character, however, had hair that was braided and stood high above her head. To accomplish this effect, braid hair around pipe cleaners, pull straight up and attach them together with a bow.
