Make correction fluid at home just like its creator.

Correction fluid, originally named "Mistake Out" by its creator, Bette Nesmith Graham, is a critical supply for the workplace and home office. Thrifty individuals can create their own version at home following the original mixture recipe made by a secretary, which she used to conceal her typing mistakes in the days before errors could be deleted with the press of a button. Homemade white-out is inexpensive and can be tinted with a few drops of colored paint to match any shade of paper.

Step 1

Remove the cap from the bottle. Insert the coffee stir straw in the bottle and check to be sure it is 1/2 inch shorter than the length of the bottle. Cut it down if it is too long.

Step 2

Cut a small section of cosmetic sponge from the narrow end and attach it to one end of the coffee stir straw with super glue. Place a dot of super glue at the opposite end of the straw and set in the center of the bottle cap's underside to create a correction brush in the bottle. Hold in place until glue is firmly set.

Step 3

Pour 8 ounces of tempera paint, 2 ounces of mineral spirits and 2 ounces of titanium dioxide powder into a blender. Plug in the blender and mix the elements at medium speed for one minute.

Step 4

Place the funnel in the neck of the bottle and pour the mixture from the blender into the bottle.

Tip

To use the correction fluid, dip the brush in the bottle and apply it to printed text. Blow on it gently to make it dry faster.

Warning

Always use extreme caution when working with chemicals.

Wash the blender thoroughly with hot soapy water before using it again with food.
