Wash aprons carefully to avoid aprons tangling.

Sometimes you might pull your laundry out of the washing machine to put it in the dryer, only to find that the laundry has wadded and tangled together into one big mass. This wrinkles and stretches your clothes, and it actually can cause them to wear out prematurely or even to get ruined. This is especially common if you are washing aprons. Prevent this by taking a few simple steps.

Using Laundry Bags

Video of the Day

Purchase mesh, zippered laundry bags on the laundry aisle of your local grocery or home improvement store. These bags run through the washing machine as well as the dryer. They prevent the apron strings from wrapping around other items in the laundry. Choose a bag that is big enough so that you don't need to wad the apron into a small bag.

Tying the Strings

Tying the apron strings together helps prevent them from tangling with other aprons or with other clothes in your laundry, but it may not always prevent it. It will certainly make tangles easier to handle. To do this, tie the edges of the apron strings together in a tight bow with short loops and short ends. Keep the bow tied throughout the wash and dry cycle. Remove the bow at the end of the dry cycle.

Smaller Loads

Smaller loads help prevent your apron and other clothes with long ties or long sleeves from tangling. Small loads give the clothes more space to move freely without getting wrapped and tangled around other clothes.

Hand Washing

Hand washing prevents the apron strings from tangling. Hand washing might be your only option if you are cleaning a decorative apron of silk or another fabric that cannot be machine washed. Avoid using aprons that you cannot machine wash as the apron will inevitably get dirty and need to be washed often.
