You can mount bottle caps onto almost any surface.

After a party has finished and all the guests have gone home, you likely have a variety of bottle caps lying around your home and patio. Gather the rare, colorful or unusual caps. You can mount these caps a number of ways while exposing the metal finish.

Interior Exposure

The easiest way to mount bottle caps is to expose the interior of the bottle cap to the air. Instead of the metallic interior of the cap, decorate the interior of the bottle cap with a picture or glitter. Attach a craft pin back or a magnet to the flat back of the bottle cap. Push the cap into a piece of wood or a cork board if you use a pin backing or, for the magnet, use a steel plate to display your handiwork.

Nails

Attach bottle caps to a wooden surface with nails. Punch a hole into the center of your bottle cap on the inside with a pin nail. This will make a small peak on the outside. Lay your bottle caps out in the design you prefer on your surface with the design facing upward. Place a pin nail into the hole. Pound the nail into the wood with a rubber mallet. This will flatten the peaked edges of the hole. Finish off your display by covering the caps in a layer of polyurethane to make them shine.

Punching

Mount your bottle caps onto a bracelet or a metal chain for an unusual garland. Flatten the caps, covered with a piece of wax paper to preserve the design, with a rubber mallet. Remove the plastic ring on the inside with a heat gun. Punch a hole in the crimped ring of the bottle cap with a nail. Thread a metal ring through the hole and attach the metal ring to a length of thin chain. Add clasps to either side of the chain to wear it as a necklace or bracelet. Attach small hooks to either side to use it as a garland that will hold the chain onto tree branches or other surfaces.

Glue

Mount your bottle caps onto pins, metal sheeting or any other flat surface with glue. Cut a piece of hard paper, such as art board, so that it is the same size as a bottle cap. Cut another piece of a colored scrap book paper and glue it to the surface of the art board for a decorative finish to your secure surface. Make the top of the bottle cap slightly concave with a small ball-peen hammer. Drip glue into the bottle cap on the bowed interior and around the edge. Place it onto the hard paper and use a plastic clothespin to keep it in place until the glue dries. Add beads or glitter to the glue in the cap for decoration and mount the paper onto any surface with glue.
